The completion of the No. 8 tunnel of the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway (HSR) in Indonesia is of great significance to the full completion of the HSR project.
JAKARTA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The No. 8 tunnel of the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway (HSR) in Indonesia was completed, the railway's operator said on Monday.
KCIC, a joint venture consortium between Chinese and Indonesian state-owned firms, said in a press release that at this point, the tunnel project of the No. 4 beam yard has all been completed after No. 8 tunnel's completion, creating conditions for the continuous advancement of beam erection in the beam yard and is of great significance to the full completion of the HSR project.
The tunnel, located in West Bandung Regency's Cikalong, West Java province, has a total length of 2,190 meters and a maximum depth of burial of about 95 meters.
KCIC said the No. 8 tunnel is the second longest tunnel in the whole HSR, with 2 inclined shafts along the tunnel.

KCIC said the construction has faced many difficulties and risks including complicated geological conditions and the under-passing of existing railways and road, among others.
KCIC said Chinese companies which are in charge of the construction adopted comprehensive and effective pandemic prevention measures to ensure the smooth completion of tunnel No. 8.
With a design speed of 350 km per hour, the high-speed railway built with Chinese technology will cut the journey between Jakarta and Bandung, the capital of West Java province, from more than three hours to around 40 minutes.■
