China is the most important trading partner for the Danish pork sector, accounting for 272,221 tonnes of total pork exports until May 2021, with a market value of 756 million U.S. dollars, according to the Danish Agriculture and Food Council.
COPENHAGEN, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- China is once again the most important trading partner for the Danish pork sector, according to a market analysis from the Danish Agriculture and Food Council (DAFC) on Tuesday.
According to the DAFC market analysis, Denmark had exported a total of 866,243 tonnes of pork by end of May 2021, a marked increase on the same period last year, when 795,423 tonnes of pork were sold abroad.
China accounted for 272,221 tonnes of Denmark's total pork exports up until May 2021, with a market value of 4.8 billion Danish kroner (DKK, 756 million U.S. dollars).
This is a sizeable increase from May 2020, when China accounted for 231,382 tonnes of exported Danish pork, valued at 4.1 billion DKK (646 million U.S. dollars).
Other major buyers of Danish pork are Germany, Poland and Japan.
However, measured by the value of the exported pork, the lower quotations in 2021 have made a negative difference.
The DAFC market analysis reported that the calculated total value of pork exports in 2020 was 16.4 billion DKK (2.6 billion U.S. dollars), while the corresponding figure for 2021 has declined to 15.3 billion DKK (2.4 billion U.S. dollars).
There are around 5,000 pig farms in Denmark, producing some 28 million pigs annually. Pork exports account for almost half of all Danish agricultural exports and more than 5 percent of the country's total exports, according to DAFC.■
