Short videos posted on social media on southwestern Chinese city Chengdu have attracted a large number of followers overseas.

Among them, a short video series titled "Chengdu, a Unique Way of Living", which showcases the city's most representative cultural symbols, has resulted in a global wave of "virtual wandering" through Chengdu, and over 100 million internet hits.

Starting in 2019, the short video series depicts the city from three perspectives: the history and culture of the "land of abundance", the harmonious ecology of the "land of pandas", and the "city of food and foodies".

The series shows how foreigners view the city and their living experience in the city from the perspectives and through the narrations of anthropologists, writers, movie directors, and architects from the United States, Britain, France, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and other countries.

Several social media accounts including "hellochengdu" on Instagram and "Chengdu Plus" on YouTube have contributed to the popularity of the short videos.

Since 2019, Chengdu has released city promotion videos in various languages, including "How to Make a Person Stay in Chengdu" in Korean, "Handbook of Business Trips to Chengdu" in Japanese, "Chengdu, a Unique Way of Living" as well as Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games promotional short video series in English.
