In 2017, China established the Giant Panda pilot national park to synergize preservation efforts. With a designed area of 27,134 square km, the park spans three provinces of Gansu, Shaanxi and Sichuan. Earlier this year, giant pandas were downgraded from "endangered" to "vulnerable."■
