ABUJA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The number of people killed in a petrol tanker explosion in north-central Nigeria has risen to 12, as emergency workers continue to search for more casualties, an official said on Monday.
"We have so far recovered the bodies of eight adult males, three adult females, and one male child," Yakubu Mohammed, a commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Benue, told Xinhua.
Earlier reports put the number of dead at seven.
The blast on Sunday occurred along a major road in the Agatu local government area, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which skidded off the road. Some shops and residential buildings nearby were reportedly consumed by the ensured fire.
An investigation has been launched into the blast. Enditem
