TOKYO, March 11 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 on Monday struck off the east shore of Japan's Fukushima Prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The temblor occurred at about 2:11 a.m. local time, with its epicenter at a latitude of 36.8 degrees north and a longitude of 142.5 degrees east, and at depth of 10 km.
The quake logged three in some parts of Hokkaido Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at seven.
An aftermath of the quake struck the same location 13 minutes later with a magnitude of 5.1.
So far no tsunami warning has been issued.
Monday marks the 8th anniversary of the massive earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11, 2011.
