FIROZ KOAH, Afghanistan, June 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 15 pro-government militiamen have been confirmed dead as Taliban fighters attacked Dawlatyar district in the western Ghor province, a member of the provincial council, Hamidullah Mutahid said Saturday.
According to the official, a group of Taliban militants launched a massive offensive in Pushtanor area of Dawlatyar district in the wee hours of Saturday, killing 15 pro-government militiamen, locally known as People's Uprising Force that has backed the government in fighting against anti-government insurgents.
Three more pro-government militiamen were injured, the official added.
Provincial government spokesman Abdul Hai Khatibi has confirmed the Taliban attack without providing details.
Neither police nor Taliban fighters have made comment.
