TOKYO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday as the market mood was lifted by increased optimism for the prospect of positive trade dialogue between China and the United States.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 179.93 points, or 0.78 percent, from Friday to close the day at 23,292.81.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 11.62 points, or 0.69 percent, higher to finish at 1,702.96.
The majority of industry categories closed in positive territory, with mining, iron and steel, and marine transportation-linked issues comprising those that gained the most by the close of play.
