HERAT, Afghanistan, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Work for the construction of three water canals at a cost of 172.2 million afghani in Guzara and Injil districts of the western Herat province have been completed, Nizam Khapalwak the spokesman for National Authority for Water Management said Monday.

Funded by the World Bank, the water canals would irrigate more than 15,000 hectares of lands, the official said, adding the canals would also benefit 27,000 families.

Khapalwak also noted that the government would continue to build more water canals to help farmers to irrigate more lands so as to increase agricultural products in the country. (1 U.S. dollar equals 77.40 afghani) Enditem
