S. Korea's export posts double-digit growth in 1st 10 days of March

SEOUL, March 11 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export posted double-digit growth in the first 10 days of this month due to recovery in global demand, customs office data showed Thursday.

Export, which takes up about half of the export-driven economy, amounted to 16.3 billion U.S. dollars in the March 1-10 period, up 25.2 percent from the same period of last year, according to the Korea Customs Service.

Import surged 31.4 percent to 17.4 billion dollars, sending the trade deficit to 1.1 billion dollars.

Export to China, South Korea's biggest trading partner, soared 33.9 percent, and those to the United States and the European Union (EU) advanced in double figures.

Shipment to Vietnam and Japan gained in the 10-day period, but export to the Middle East slipped in double digits.

Export for semiconductors, automobiles, auto parts and oil products recorded a double-digit increase in the period, and shipment of telecommunication devices such as smartphones grew in single digits. Enditem
