KABUL, March 15 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,057 newly graduated soldiers have been commissioned to the Afghan national army here on Monday.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, army officer General Mohammad Habib Hisari said that 102 of the newly graduated soldiers and lieutenants are girls who after completion of a 12-week training course would serve elsewhere in the country.

The newly graduated soldiers also vowed to serve the nation to bring about peace and security in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan's 350,000-strong security and defense forces have been fighting an increasing militancy over the past more than a decade, but the insurgent groups including Taliban, al-Qaida and the hardliner Islamic State (IS) outfit are still in control of parts of the war-battered country. Enditem
