BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Brunei officially kicked off the 17th Legislative Council meeting on Monday, with the government budget and development plans on the table for discussion.

The annual parliamentary session was inaugurated by Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and will focus on the deliberation and approval of the fiscal budget bill for the financial year 2021-2022, which will come into effect on April 1 this year.

The Sultan said in his speech that policy holders should be transparent and courageous, adding that the government's efforts to improve the country's economy, manpower, and fiscal situation require all parties' commitment, especially those in charge of government policies.

During its sitting, two sessions of the Legislative Council meeting will be held daily and is open to the public in a limited capacity. Enditem
