HANOI, March 31 (Xinhua) -- The National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam on Wednesday elected here Vuong Dinh Hue as its new chairman at the ongoing 11th session of the 14th NA.

A resolution on electing Hue as the chairman of the NA and chairman of the National Election Council was adopted with an approval rate of 98.54 percent, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Prior to the election, Hue, 64, served as secretary of the Municipal Party Committee of Hanoi since February 2020.

In his sworn-in statement, Hue vowed to be absolutely loyal to the nation, the people and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to make every effort to fulfill the duty assigned by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the state and the people.

On Tuesday, the NA relieved Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan from the duties of chairwoman of the NA and chairwoman of the National Election Council. A nomination list for the election of a new leader to the two positions was submitted afterwards by the NA Standing Committee for deputies' discussion.

According to Vietnamese legal regulations, the working tenure of the NA Chairperson is coincident with the tenure of the NA. Enditem
