KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The construction and asphalting of a 22 km-long road that links Shorabak to the neighboring Spin Boldak district in Afghanistan's restive southern Kandahar province has been completed, said a newsletter of the Ministry for Public Work on Saturday.
Constructed at a cost of 558 million afghani (7.2 million U.S. dollars) and financed by the government, the road would facilitate the villagers to easily take their products to local market to increase their income, the newsletter said.
Parts of Kandahar province, a former stronghold of Taliban militants, have been the scene of fighting and militancy over the past more than a decade.
The Ministry of Public Work would spare no efforts to construct and reconstruct the highways, roads and streets elsewhere in the country to provide better services to the citizens, the newsletter said. Enditem
