ASADABAD, Afghanistan, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan national security forces have killed nine militants and destroyed many of their weapons during an ongoing operation in Kunar province, eastern Afghanistan, an army source confirmed on Wednesday.
"Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDFS) launched a military operation in Ghazi Abad district on Tuesday. Aiming to clear the militants from the district, the operation is continuing in the mountains region, and nine Taliban militants have been killed as of midday on Wednesday," General Rahimdel Sapay from army's 201 Selab Corps based in the region told Xinhua.
There were also four security forces members and six militants wounded during the fightings, he said.
The operation will continue before the areas are cleared from the presence of militants, the army general added.
The ANDSF continued the mopping-up operations across Afghanistan but the militants attack government interests in the provinces from time to time.
On Monday, 15 civilians, mostly religious students, were wounded after several rockets fired by militants struck provincial capital Asadabad. Enditem
