SEOUL, July 7 (Xinhua) -- LG Electronics, South Korea's tech giant, logged a double-digit growth in operating profit for the second quarter of this year, the company said Wednesday.
Preliminary figure for operating profit reached 1.11 trillion won (975 million U.S. dollars) in the April-June quarter, up 65.5 percent from the same quarter of last year.
It was the highest second-quarter figure in 12 years, topping 1 trillion won (878.7 million U.S. dollars) for the second consecutive quarter.
Revenue soared 48.4 percent over the year to 17.1 trillion won (15 billion U.S. dollars) in the second quarter, logging the highest-ever second-quarter reading in the company's history.
Net income and detailed earnings on each business unit will be announced later this month.
The double-digit increase in earnings was attributable to strong demand for TVs and air conditioner in the summer hot season. Enditem
