Vietnam reports 11,214 new COVID-19 cases, 348,059 in total

HANOI, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 11,214 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, including 11,208 locally transmitted and six imported, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

Most of the community cases were detected in southern localities, including 4,193 in the epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 3,795 in the nearby Binh Duong province, and 849 in Dong Nai province.

Also on Sunday, the southern Soc Trang province confirmed another 138 domestically transmitted cases that were detected in previous days.

The new infections brought the total tally in the country to 348,059, with 8,277 deaths, the ministry said.

As many as 147,667 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 7,580 from Saturday, while over 17 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the ministry.

As of Sunday, Vietnam has registered a total of 343,972 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in late April, the ministry said. Enditem
