Diplomatic briefing held on current developments in Myanmar

YANGON, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar held a briefing on its current developments with a wide range of issues to diplomats on Thursday.

Speaking at the briefing, Union Minister of Information U Maung Maung Ohn highlighted the repatriation of migrant workers and citizens who had sought refuge in neighbouring countries and were facing difficulties.

The minister also thanked countries and organizations especially India, China, Russia, Cambodia, and ASEAN that had donated vaccines and medical supplies for Myanmar to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the briefing, Major General Soe Tint Naing, deputy minister of Home Affairs, stressed that the provisional government is cooperating with relevant United Nations and ASEAN organizations to combat terrorism and following the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

U Khin Maung Oo, member of the Union Election Commission (UEC), also presented the findings of the current UEC's investigations into the voting processes and documentation before, during and after the general elections held on Nov. 8 last year.

The Union Election Commission cancelled the results of the previous elections in July, stressing that the elections were not held in line with laws and were not fair as a reason. Enditem
