Mount Lushan is located in the north of Jiangxi Province, with
the Changjiang River flowing by just in the north and the Poyang
Lake lying in the southeast . Known as "the most beautiful
mountain under heaven" its scenic area covers 302 square kilometers
of land, including 16 natural wonders, 474 scenic spots and 171
peaks standing on rolling mountain ranges.
Waterfalls roaring like thunder cascade down precipitous cliffs
and gurgling steams meander through serene nooks. Clouds and vapor
float and wrap the scenery in a blanket of mist. In the misty slopes
and valleys over three thousand species of plants produce a world
of green be speckled with a myriad colors while the remains of the
quaternary glaciers add an air of mystery to the beauty of the mountain.
A million migrant birds soar above the waters of the Poyang Lake,
the largest group of cranes in the world dance between heaven and
water. A really wonder sight!

Mount Lushan has a very long cultural history. There were traces
of our ancestors as early as remote antiquity. Over two thousand
years ago Qian Sima, historian of Western Han Dynasty, recorded
the mountain in his "Records of the historian ". White
Deer Cave Academy, the most important of the four ancient academies
of China, enjoys fame in the history of Chinese education. East
Forest Monastery, constructed by an eminent monk in Eastern Jin
(317-420), is the place where the pure Land Sect of Buddhism originated.
More than 1,500 famous men have ascended Mount lushan at different
times in history, leaving behind 4,000 poems, 900 inscriptions on
rocky cliffs, and countless paintings, calligraphy, and books. The
surviving 600 villas built in unique styles and shapes exhibit the
culture of 18 countries and nations.
