Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, lying in Nanping County of Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba in Sichuan Province, covers 720 square kilometers of land. It encompass lakes, waterfalls, shoals, streams, snow-capped mountains, forest as wells Tibetan villages. Most of the sceneries stretch along a valley over 60 kilometers long. There are 108 lakes in the valley. The summit is a "long sea" 7,000 meters in length and hundreds of meters in width. Ancient trees, toppled by Nature, strew the water. Covered by travertine carbonate the tree branches glitter in many colors in the rays of the sun. Thus the lake is also called Colorful Lake. A breathtaking spectacle is the dozens of rushing

waterfalls cascading between the lakes. The Nuorina Waterfall in the center of the Yellow Dragon Raving is most magnificent. Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area has a rich resources of flora and fauna and houses, 2,576 species of protophites. Being at the juncture of the subtropical and the temperate Zones, the scenic area houses trees suited to both zones such as Chinese tallow tree (Sapium sebiferum), and Chinese pine (Pinus tabulaeformis), forming a vertical flora zonation. The place houses 170 species of vertebrates and 141 species of birds including Giant Panda, gnu, and Golden Monkey, all at the first level of national protection, 4 species of animals at the secondary level of protection, and 9 species of animals at the tertiary level of protection.
