Shenzhen is in the south of Guangdong Province
113 O 46'-114 O 37'E and 22 O 27-22 O 52'N, It borders
on New Territories of Hong Kong in the south, overlooking
the Depart Bay in the east, the Pearl River Estuary
in the west and adjoins Huizhou city and Dongguan city
in The North.
Area
Shenzhen has a total area of 2,020 square kilometers,of
which the Special Economic Zone covers an area of 327.5
square kilometers.
Climate
Shenzhen enjoys a maritime and subtropical climate.
The average annual temperature is 22.4, with the highest
record of 36.6 and the lowest of 1.4. The average annual
rainfall is 1,948.6 mm.and the average annual sunshine
are 2,120 hours. The southeasterly wind prevails the
whole year round.
Coast
The coastline of Shenzhen stretches 229.9 kilometers.
Fishery
The sea area of Shenzhen teems with over 30 species
of famous and precious fith including the golden thread
fish, the "big-eye"porgy, sea-bass and etc.
and with shrimps,cards,shells and algaes. The city also
abounds with oysters in Shajing and coastal shrimaps
which are renowned at home and abroad.
Minerals
In the city, 15 metallic and 12 mon-metallic minerals
have been prospected and there are over 900 mineral
deposits, of which building material minerals such as
fresh-water sand, marble,granite and lime stone have
abundant reserves.
Specialties
Shenzhen abounds in the "three yellow" fattened
chicken in Longgang litchis in Nantou, peaches in Nanshan,sand
pears in Shiyan, the "golden tortoise"mandarin
and so on. More than 90 varieties of valuable animals
live and breed locally, including the "tiger-skin
streak"frog,boas, rhesus monkdys,zibets and etc.,which
are wild animals under state protection.
Population
By the end of 1994,the population of the city totaled
3.3553 million including 0.94 million permanent dwellers
and 2.4154 million nonpermanent ones.
