China Folk Culture Villages
China
Folk Culture Villages is a large tourist centre where
folk arts, culture and architecture of China's various
nationalities are assembled in one area - the first
of its kind in China.
Constructed with the joint investment from China Travel
Service (Hong Kong) Limited and Shenzhen Overseas Chinese
Town Economic Development Corporation, the Villages,
which occupies an area of 200,000 square metres, is
situated by the picturesque Shenzhen Bay and adjacent
to "Splendid China", the famous miniature
scenic spot.
Guided by the principle of "originating from
real life but rising above it, and discarding the dross
and selecting the essential", the Villages attempts
to reflect from various angles the folk customs and
culture of China's nationalities. Twenty-four life sized
villages representing the typical ethnic architectural
styles of the 21 selected nationalities of China have
been built in the tourist centre.
In addition to appreciating various ethnic architectural
styles, visitors can expect to enjoy watching as well
as taking part in the singing and dancing of different
nationalities, the onthe-spot demonstrations of making
handicrafts, taste local delicacies with typical ethnic
flavours, watch carnival of national arts, song and
dance performance by professional artists-I visit an
exhibition hall of folk customs and enjoy folk festive
celebrations, etc. Visitors can have a taste of the
colourful cultures of China's 56 nationalities.
In China Folk Culture Villages, you can find a stone
forest of Yunnan, a forest of coconut palms of Hainan,
towering age-old banyans from Nonbin, a high statue
of the Thousand-handed and Thousand-eyed Guanyin (or
the Goddess of Mercy), memorial stone archways of Huizhou,
laser folk music fountains, etc. Undulating hills, roaring
waterfalls, winding streams and racing boats enliven
the scenery in the tourist centre, where visitors may
make sightseeing tours on foot, by vehicle, or by boat.
A grand folk festive celebration will be held each month
in the Villages. Grand, romantic, rejoicing and auspicious,
these festivities will enable visitors to take in the
happy atmosphere of the magnificent occasions and to
feel the poetic quality of the life of the Chinese nation.
