Yantai has built up a solid industrial base with a complete industrial production system consisting of light industry and the foodstuffs, textiles, machinery, buiding materials, silk, electronics, meters and instruments, chemical, metallurgical and coal industries. It is one of the important industrial bases of Shandong Province with more than 2700 industrial enterprises including some rural township ones. The main industrial products amount to over 2000 vareties, and more than 450 of them are sold abroad. The Zhangyu wines, Polaris wooden-frame clocks and "Tri-circle" pad-locks were awarded the prize of national famous trademark. In 1987, the International Grape and Wine Bureau named Yantai as the first "International City of Grape and Wine" in China.

Zhangyu wines, Polaris wooden frame-clocks and alarm clocks are the three traditional industrial products of Yantai. Some new famous brand products like automobiles, air-conditioner used in automobiles, conductive coated glass, electronic mask, electronic spare parts, engineering machinery, power machinery, series of freezers, spandex fiber, polyamide fiber and computers shaped in a certain scale as well, some of them take advantage positions in their own fields. For example, in the field of textile industry, Yantai Anlun Co. Ltd. is expected to reach the annual production capability of 4500 tons this year, and it is the number one both in production capability and market occupation. Moreover, the production level and exporting scale of clothing in Yantai is keeping the first flight in China.

In the field of machinery industry, the market occupation rate about products like bearing instrument, pneumatic element, and are all over 70%. Pneumatic element is
mainly exported to European countries such as Germany and France, and its export value ranks the first in China. In the fields of automobile industry, * plays a decisive role in its field, and its annual production capability of car engine reaches 300,000. In the field of shipbuilding industry, Yantai has the biggest dock in Asia (372*120*13.4m,) and the strongest hanging machine in the same field of the world which ranks 2,000 tons, so it's capable to build variety ships.
