Urban construction & administration

In 1997, the urban & rural construction in suzhou focused on pecting functions and improving levels and have thus made remarkable achievement in programing, construction and administration. The municipal government has finished formulating "Macro-programing of Urban Suzhou (1996~2010)" and it has been resented to the State Council for approval. All the cities on county level have deepened and perfected their regional programs and the programing work of the core villages have also sped up. The construction of infrastructure have gained speed and thus achieved great progress and eliminated basically the restricting factors of economic development. Ten substantial projects in urban area have been accomplished. The main and secondary highway mending work has covered 123,000 square meters. The annual water and power supply amounted 2.3 hundred million m3 and 27.3 hundred million KWh. The daily sewage disposal capacity reached 230,000 m3. Gas users increased 29000, realizing a 95% gas consumptin. The extended green area totaled 720,000 square meters, realizing a 25.6% green coverage and an average per capita green area of 4.64 square meters. Suzhou has won the title of "Advanced Greening City of Jiangsu Province". 7 bus routes have been constructed or rebuilt, making a 32.6-kilometer increase. Great achievements have made in the construction of core villages & towns.

The urban&rural administration and comprehensive ecological improvement have been greatly enhanced. The air quality keeps on the national secondary level. The qualty of drinking-water sources and most of the lake water keeps on the natinal II-III level. The urban&rural traffic noise and enviromental noise are basically on the natinal function area level.
